SCORE

The NYS School Library Systems Association (SLSA) provides the opportunity for coordinated, consortial purchasing of K-12 eResources and eBooks accessed by students in public and non-public schools. SLSA’s program, SLS Consortium of Online Resources for Education (SCORE) does not include participation from city schools located in: Buffalo, New York City, Rochester, Syracuse nor schools in BOCES’ regions of: Erie 1, Nassau, Rockland, and Western Suffolk.

The goal of SCORE is to offer NYS students and teachers the best quality teaching and learning resources, at the most cost-effective pricing and compliant with New York State Ed Law 2d and Student Data Privacy.

As there were recent legal updates to Ed Law 2d in January 2020 which required us to send out a new RFQ and Letter of Agreement to our SCORE vendors.  Our law firm, Bond, Schoeneck, & King, LLC, made the required updates to the RFQ and finalized the Letter of Agreement. These are the vendors that have signed off on current Ed Law 2d regulations as of April 21, 2020 with a few more left to reply:

  1. BrainPop

The advantages of a partnership with SCORE include:

  • Many SLS purchase eResources exclusively from vendor partners included in SCORE because it provides:
    • Product vetting based on strict selection criteria aligned to student learning and NYS content area standards
    • Streamlined communication with sales and customer service
    • Uniform pricing that is accessible from one location
    • Sole-source documentation
    • Facilitation of vendor/SLS communications and troubleshooting through a dedicated consultant
    • An effective model for increased efficiency and cost containment, recognized by both BOCES and City Business Offices across NYS
  • SCORE program supports vendors’ marketing and sales initiatives by:
    • Coordinating state-wide product trials
    • Increasing product awareness created by the SLS pool of key eResources
    • Establishing valuable partnerships with SLS Directors, who in turn provide input, suggestions, awareness, recommendations, and more to school librarians and administrators at the point of need
    • Increased exposure of products through professional learning activities hosted and attended by SLS directors, such as workshops, conferences, and meetings; these opportunities allow SLS directors to share and recommend your products with administrators, teachers, librarians and other stakeholders
  • Many districts prefer purchasing from the SLS for the various value-added benefits:
    • Product eligibility for state-aid reimbursement
    • Facilitation of SLS-led regional trainings and professional development for vendor products
    • Streamlined sharing of pricing information
    • On-going help and support offered by the SLS
    • Access to aggregated statistical usage data across products offered by the SLS

On behalf of SLSA and the SCORE program, we look forward to continued working and partnering with you. Please be in touch with additional thoughts, questions, or comments.
