Why Transformational Change?
This activity will get participants thinking about why transformational change is needed in education, particularly in school libraries. We will delve into the difference between “tinkering” and “transformational.”
Defining Your Why, What, and How
This activity will engage participants in critically thinking about how they think and talk about school libraries. They will be faced with answering difficult questions about why library programs should exist in schools and what real impacts they provide for their school communities. They will be forced to rethink their current priorities for change as they grapple with Sinek’s idea of “starting with why” and their districts’ various visions, goals, and challenges.
Your Strengths and Leadership Opportunities (Strengths-Finder)
Participants will engage in an activity that will help them in understanding their strengths and how these strengths manifest themselves as they lead.
Seeing Your Challenge from All Angles [6 Thinking Hats]
This activity will give participants a chance to succinctly communicate their challenge and why it’s important to others; it will allow them to put their goals into the context of their local communities and districts. Through the feedback from multiple perspectives in their group using the Six Thinking Hats protocol, participants will begin to understand the various components related to their challenge and the issues that may need to be addressed in order for them to be successful in bringing about change.
Turning Your Challenge into Action
In this activity, participants will brainstorm ways they can move forward in tackling this challenge and overcoming the obstacles that prevent them from making progress in their districts.
Closing & Invitation to Move Forward
Team members will suggest possible options for providing virtual support for participants from June – November.
