Judy Marsh – Recipient Of 2011 Distinguished Service Award
Judy Marsh, Director of the Wayne-Finger Lakes School Library System, is the recipient of 2011 Distinguished Service Award from the School Library Systems Association of New York State (SLSA).
The Distinguished Service Award is presented to a School Library System Director whose work exemplifies six areas of consideration: professional leadership, professional service, information sharing, collaboration, quality programs and creative service.
Jennifer Henry, SLSA President, made the following remarks during the award presentation. “Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “A good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader, a great leader inspires others to have confidence in themselves.” Judy Marsh is a great and unremitting leader. She never loses sight of the most critical issues facing School Library Systems and school libraries. She does not fear making her voice heard. She does not fear asking pointed questions or reminding us of our mission, goals or purpose. She easily acknowledges and respects the perspectives of others and understands how connections are made. Judy always demonstrates strength without being rude and abrasive. As one colleague says, “Judy has been an outstanding source for information and help. Whenever I have a question, she is quick with a reply and goes the extra mile to help me. She has given me great feedback on how to improve myself in this position.”
